Open Source Tech Stack

Introduction
Our goal is to deliver software for customers and end users that provide them value in the most sustainable way. We focus on delivery because that's what truly matters. The American tech companies have made it extremely clear during 2025 they will maximise profits at all costs. They are monopolies & feifdoms working hand in hand with the US Government to further their own interests at the expense all else.
This is no longer a sustainable path and using their software and platforms cannot lead to a positive future.
This leaves us with a dilemma, when most companies & end users will continue to rely upon big tech platforms how do we achieve our objective?
The first step is cleaning our own house, which we have been doing for the past months. Here is the list of the software we are using and supporting going forward. We will need to update our credits as well but this post will be a point in time reference of how this stack evolves in future.
Server
Proxmox
Having used Proxmox in production for the past 5 years, it remains our stable foundation for anything self hosted. After the insanity of the VMware price hikes we hope more customers will see that an opensource solution is the best option at the foundational level of the stack.

TrueNAS
When it comes to data at enterprise scale, we trust the open solutions provided by iXsystems. With a foundation of ZFS we are extremely confident in our data integrity. TrueNAS scales really easily as your storage needs expand and business needs change.

Debian
Server uptime is our critical metric which is why for our servers we still trust Debian.

Desktop & Mobile
SecureBlue
SecureBlue takes Fedora Atomic & applies additional hardening to make it the most secure Linux operating system. This is now our primary development OS as we transition away from Mac.

GrapheneOS
GrapheneOS is the only viable alternative to native Android and iOS phones. Due to its tight integration with Google Pixel hardware it keeps and builds upon the security mechanisms available to keep the phone's integrity in tact. All other alternatives investigated had significant reductions in security both in terms of physical attacks due to loss or theft, and cyber attack vectors.

Services
Forgejo
All of our repositories now have their primary git server as our internal Forgejo instance.

Nextcloud
Calendars & Shared documents are managed on our internal Nextcloud. The long term stability of this project made it the clear choice for long term data ownership.

Web
Building for the web remains the best method for cross compatibility and ensuring as many people as possible can use the software we create. We will have a renewed focus on web first, and all of our projects will ensure they can be used as a Progressive Web App (PWA). Using and promoting PWA as our primary platform allows end users the most choice in their computing platform, and we hope other companies will also make this their priority.
Room for Improvement
At the moment we still rely on AWS Cloud Front & Cloudflare for our content delivery, CDN is a difficult area to balance as end user delivery & usability remain our key metrics. We hope that a tangible community lead alternative might be possible, and we would love to hear about any work in this area!
